Our open enrollment Stewards of Children sessions are offered virtually. Our certified facilitators lead these interactive sessions.
Our Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training is for parents and adults who work or volunteer with kids. Stewards is smart, evidence informed, and empowering. It has been shown to work: adults who take the training follow up with actions that help keep kids safe.
How Stewards of Children works. The two and a half hour training includes facilitator-led discussion, interactive workbook activity, and compelling video featuring experts, parents, and adult survivors of abuse. Stewards of Children goes beyond awareness—it provides skills. Participants learn specific concrete actions that they can take, as individuals and as a part of bigger organizations, that work to protect children. Read our flyer for more information.
Training at your organization. We’ve provided Stewards training for thousands of people at hundreds of youth-serving organizations across Shelby County. Parents, employees and volunteers in schools, medical centers, places of worship, after-school groups, and other organizations are better prepared to protect the kids in their care. When organizations get Stewards training for their staff and volunteers, kids are safer.
If you have a group of 8 or more, we’ll provide the training at your setting. There is a small training materials fee and some scholarships are available. Don’t have 8 people (or maybe, it’s just you)? Then ask about our open enrollment sessions. Contact our prevention director at email@example.com to schedule training for your organization.
Open enrollment sessions. We also offer FREE virtual Stewards sessions for individuals. Watch our Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages or here for the schedule of upcoming sessions. *Pre-registration is required. Register with Lauren at lkissinger@MemphisCAC.org.
Here's what some people had to say about the training:
"...I learned a lot about strategies I can use in my everyday work and home life to help prevent sexual abuse and to bring awareness to others."
"This was one of the best training sessions I've ever attended on any topic. Thank you for the honest presentation of a sensitive but important issue."
“I really enjoyed this training...it gave specific examples of how you can help stop this. The stories were gripping and made me realize how real of an issue this is."
“I am truly grateful to have completed this training. I was aware of sexual abuse but not so much aware of what and how to do things to prevent it."
ABC/Local 24 Memphis reporter Brad Broders talks with our executive director Virginia Stallworth and Porter-Leath’s Rickey Johnson about Stewards of Children in this video. Every Porter-Leath employee takes this powerful training.
Child Protection Policy. In addition to Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention and response training, the Memphis Child Advocacy Center also offers child policy consultation services to youth-serving organizations. Kids are safer at community settings with solid child protection policy. Good policy addresses one child-one adult interactions, background checks, training for staff and volunteers, and more. Contact our prevention director at kcrim@MemphisCAC.org to learn more about child policy consultations.
