Our Team Approach

meetingOur team approach is what makes us unique. We have created a place where professionals can join forces to provide protection and justice.

Memphis was one of the first child advocacy centers in an association of almost 300 nationally to bring key child protection and investigative agencies under one roof.

The Shelby County Child Protection Investigation Team (CPIT) is headquartered at the CAC and helps facilitate the multi-disciplinary approach to intervention, investigation, prosecution and treatment of abuse. We believe that child abuse is a community problem and no single agency has the necessary skills, knowledge and resources to provide the assistance needed by abused children and their families.

The mission of CPIT is, "to work together through a collaborative, inter-agency approach to ensure the best possible outcomes for children who are victims of sexual abuse and other severe physical abuse".

Adopted on January 6, 2006, the Child Protection Investigation Team Protocol partners key agencies in Shelby County to better serve children who are victims of sexual and physical abuse. The agencies listed below have developed the protocol to facilitate the “detection, intervention, prevention and treatment of child maltreatment in the Shelby County area. According to former District Attorney Bill Gibbons, “The protocol reflects the real spirit of cooperation we have among all law enforcement agencies and others involved in protecting the children of our community. It reflects a true team effort.
