When an allegation of child sexual abuse or severe physical abuse has been made, the Memphis Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a warm and caring atmosphere for children and their families to receive coordinated services. These include counseling, interviews, and a team review. In this child-focused, child-friendly environment, representatives from many disciplines make decisions about investigation, treatment, and prosecution of child abuse cases.

The CAC, a private, non-profit organization, is a cooperative effort among agencies in Shelby County. It involves the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement officers, prosecutors from the 30th Judicial District Attorney General’s office, mental health providers and other resources in a coordinated community response.

Located in a restored Victorian house listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the CAC is a neutral, friendly and welcoming place for children and families. The CAC is an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance and is licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Child Abuse Prevention Agency. We help set the standard nationwide among children’s advocacy centers.

We see kids up to age 17; the average age is 9 years old. About 25% of the children seen at the center are male.
