Memphis Child Advocacy Center

Services

The Memphis Child Advocacy Center provides a warm, caring and safe environment. Here, children and their families receive comprehensive services tailored to their specific needs.

Counseling/crisis intervention program

Crisis intervention, individual counseling and group counseling are provided for sexually abused children and their non-offending parents. Counseling seeks to reduce lifelong trauma and its resulting behaviors. Family Advocates provide education and support to non-offending parents so that they can fully support their children and ensure their safety.

Team services

The CAC houses a sub-unit of the Shelby County Child Protection Investigation Team (CPIT). Having everyone under one roof helps facilitate the multi-disciplinary approach to intervention, investigation, prosecution and treatment of abuse. The Center provides a professional environment and supportive resources to help the Team do its best work for the children.

Forensic interviewing

As part of the team effort, the Center’s Forensic Interviewers conduct interviews (English or Spanish) of alleged victims of child sexual abuse to obtain accurate and reliable information. This information is used in making child protection, criminal offense, therapeutic and intervention decisions.

Medical services

In June of 2009, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital became the fourth organization to co-locate at the Memphis CAC. Le Bonheur provides medical exams specific to the needs of children.

Educational programs

Child sexual abuse is not an easy problem to solve, but there are proven tools your organization can use to protect kids in your care from hidden danger. The CAC offers evidence-based training and consultation to assist your organization in preparing leadership, staff, and volunteers, updating policy and procedure, or getting expert advice on responding to suspected sexual abuse.
