Never give out personal information on-line such as first or last name, phone numbers, home address, names of parents, name or address of friends.
-
Anytime you post messages, you are leaving your email address. Your address then is available for people to send you email that you might not want.
-
Never post or send photos of yourself, your home, your room, your family, your friends, etc., to an on-line "friend."
-
An on-line friend may be someone posing as a child or young person. If this person likes everything you say or do, thinks you are always right and is unusually supportive, it's time to be cautious. If the on-line friend encourages you to keep the chats secret from your parents, this is a warning sign. Child sexual abusers quickly key in on tensions between children and their parents and quickly move in to fill that emptiness.
-
Never chat with anyone on-line that you do not know in person. If you do, NEVER agree to meet, in person, with anyone you chat with on-line.
-
Never give out your password. If you do, a person can then access your account and do things for which you might be held responsible.
-
Discontinue any on-line chat that makes you uncomfortable or has any sexual suggestions. Better yet, never talk to anyone over the computer that you don't know personally. And don't go to a chat room, period!
