Memphis Child Advocacy Center

Chefs Celebrity Gala

20th Annual Chefs’ Celebrity Gala Benefit a huge success!

This year, the Child Advocacy Center’s annual Chefs’ Celebrity Gala outdid itself! Not only was the gala in a beautiful new venue, the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis, but the other special aspects of this annual event were just a little bit bigger and brighter this year. This fabulous event, held on Thursday, October 15, 2009, was sponsored by the American Culinary Federation, Greater Memphis chapter, and Sysco Memphis.

Over 600 generous partygoers enjoyed a delicious five-course gourmet meal, prepared by a team of premiere chefs from the American Culinary Federation. Every year, guests purchase Teddy Bear Surprises for $250, $500 and $1,000 for exciting treasures not revealed until after the purchase is made. This year, a record number (over 100) of Teddy Bear Surprises were claimed by the generous attendees. Add to this dancing, the entertaining Jim Johnson Orchestra, and the gracious Celebrity Servers serving delectable food, and the Child Advocacy Center’s Chefs’ Celebrity Gala was a tremendous hit.

The biggest achievement, however, is that the Gala continues to serve as the largest single source of funding for the Child Advocacy Center. This year, thanks to the committed leadership of Carol W. Prentiss, the hard work of the Gala Planning Committee, and the generosity of hundreds of donors, over $226,000 (net) has been raised so far. And in keeping with the Gala tradition of good stewardship, overhead was kept below 10%.

Carol throws a very elegant party, and it is worth it, because in the end, it helps victims become children again.

The 2010 Gala is scheduled for the fall of 2010. Gala table sponsorships are available for $2,500. For information, please call Virginia Stallworth at 901.888.4340 or email us at donations@memphiscac.org.
