22th Annual Chefs’ Celebrity Gala
Thursday, October 20, 2011
The Chefs’ Celebrity Gala is the Memphis Child Advocacy Center’s oldest and most successful fundraiser, annually raising $250,000 or more in support of our work to help abused children heal. Sponsored by the American Culinary Federation, Greater Memphis chapter, the gala features a five-course gourmet dinner for 500 guests. The more than 100 Celebrity Servers, who are some of Memphis’ most philanthropic and community-spirited volunteers, present the special meal to the guests. The Servers and their table sponsors represent many of the premier corporations in Memphis. The 2011 Gala will feature entertainment by the Jim Johnson Orchestra. There is no formal program presented at the gala. Tables are $3,000 and seat ten. Overhead for the event is typically 10% or less.
Teddy Bear Surprises are an enduringly popular and unique aspect of the Chefs’ Celebrity Gala. Gift certificates for goods and services donated by local businesses and individuals are placed inside envelopes attached to adorable teddy bears. Gala attendees purchase the teddy bears, along with the certificates for surprise gifts. The bears sell for $250, $500 and $1,000. Every year the Teddy Bears quickly sell out soon after the doors of the ballroom are opened. In past years, gifts have included jewelry, travel vouchers, weekend vacations, restaurant gift certificates and gift items. Part of the fun is not knowing what item(s) you have purchased until you open the envelope. A small silent auction is also featured at the gala.
The 22nd Annual Chefs’ Celebrity Gala is scheduled for the Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Holiday Inn, University of Memphis. Gala table sponsorships are available for $3,000. For information, please call Virginia Stallworth at 901.888.4340 or email us at donations@memphiscac.org.
